Michael Williams is a Canadian photographer/director living between Toronto and New York City. Michael began his photographic career while studying in Paris. He started out by photographing artists, musicians, and other interesting characters which then led to non stop magazine work.
After many years working as a fashion & beauty photographer, Michael now focuses on his deepest passion; photographing and making short films about interesting people and everyday life.
Michael has the unique ability to connect with his subjects in a manner few photographers can. He quickly puts his subjects at ease while capturing honest and real moments. Michael is a master lighting technician but prefers to capture his subjects with his nuanced handling of available light.
Michael’s work has been published in almost every major magazine in the world including Vogue, Esquire, Vanity Fair, G.Q, Elle, Vibe, Essence, Interview, and New York Magazine. Some of his commercial clients include HP, Bose, Canon Cameras, Hershey’s, Girls Inc, McDonald’s, Cisco, Proctor & Gamble, Walmart, Weight Watchers, Rogers Media, and NBC, Michael’s work has been published in many books, gallery shows, including a one-man show at the Museum of Modern Art in Antwerp.
